John Craig Military Service

This page is devoted to all of the materials which relate to the service of John R. Craig. John was a private (later served as corporal) who enlisted in the Kentucky Foot Soldiers for the Mexican American War. The soldiers marched from Kentucky to Mexico where they were involved in several battles. John was wounded at the Battle of Buena Vista in February 1847. His brother Hugh was also wounded at the same battle. At the conclusion of the war, they marched to New Orleans where they were discharged from service.

John's Muster Rolls - They detail the times he was noted at muster for the company.

Bounty Land Claim - As a result of his service, he was awarded bounty land rights. He sold those and this shows he was assigning them to someone else.
