Samuel Heath & Mary Rawalt Family

This page is devoted to all of the documents and records collected for the Samuel Heath family. Samuel is the earliest documented Heath of this family. Census records indicate that Samuel was born in Virginia. There is circumstantial evidence that his father is named William Heath but as of yet no proof. Samuel makes his first appearance in Indiana. He lives in Clark County along with several other Heaths including an older one named William. Samuel meets & marries Mary Rawalt a daughter of John Rawalt and Elizabeth Yocum. The Rawalt family and friends had traveled to Indiana for land and were there for several years. John's father (also John) who is a Revolutionary War veteran dies in New York in 1822 and so the Indiana Rawalts head back to New York. John Heath and Mary follows the Rawalt family back to New York where three children are born. In 1836 they head to the wilds of Illinois via wagon which was a trip of six weeks. Samuel and Mary settle first into Fulton County and farm there. They have 4 more children for a total of 7 which was very common. Tragedy struck when Mary died in 1857 at the age of 50. The family moved to neighboring McDonough County and put down roots there which continue for some even today. Samuel remarried and had one more child. He died in 1872. Information on his children (other than John who is in the direct line) can be found on the Other Heath Families  page.
