George S Heath Military Records

George Heath appeared to be searching for his place in life. He farmed with his father and later tried his hand at selling the fine grain sand found there on the farm for construction. He went to neighboring counties snd states trying to become a merchant. Newspaper accounts portray him as a optimistic hard charging individual. The death of his wife in 1898 sent him into a spiral that seemed to mark him. By dispersing his children to relatives he was admitting failure but he kept looking for his place in life.

It was only chance that his military service was uncovered. On the third page of the 1915 Kansas State Census, there was a line for military service. Here is the link . Returning to the first page confirmed that this was indeed George. Further research found a few precious documents online. Perhaps his service record may be obtained in the future.
