Reuben Rider and Prudence (Rider) Family

 

Reuben Rider was born in Yarmouth, Massachusetts about 1750. His parents were John Rider and Mary Paine. The Riders had a long history in the Yarmouth area. In search of better opportunities and affordable land, the family moved to Dutchess County, NY around 1745. Reuben met a young woman Prudence (last name unknown as of yet) and they married in about 1776.They raise several children in Dutchess County but the lure of a better life was still there. Nearby Herkimer County was beginning to open up and develop. Reuben along with some of his children made their way to Litchfield in Herkimer County sometime around 1795. It was here that Reuben and Prudence lived out their days.
