Henry Shepherd Family
Henry A Shepherd was the youngest son of Dr. William A Shepherd and Frances Rogers Shepherd. He was born in Highland County abt 1843. Henry decided to become a doctor following the example of his father and older brother William W. While studying medicine he was severely injured in an accident which put an end to his dreams of medicine. After he recovered somewhat Henry turned to studying the law and became a lawyer. As an ambitious young man he ran for judge several times and was elected to one term as a state legislator. During his legislative term in Columbus he again became seriously ill and his brother went there to care for him and eventually brought him home. Henry's health never fully recovered after this.
He was interested in the geology and archeology of the surrounding area and Ohio in general and wrote a book documenting his findings. In the mid 1880s, Henry moved to another county in Ohio to speculate in land. Supposedly he was married about this time but as of yet we have found no record. Henry died in 1887 and is buried by his father in the IOOF Cemetery in New Vienna, Clinton County, Ohio.
