HC Underwood Retirement

 

Harry Charles Underwood had a nearly 40 year career in education. He began in Oswego, New York at Oswego High School but then moved his family to Los Angeles, California. It was not long before he became a teacher for the Los Angeles Unified School District. Harry started first at Lincoln High School before moving to Fairfax HS where he stayed for 30 years. In 1956 Harry capped off his career by becoming Principal of Jordan High Adult School.

1n 1961 at the age of 65, Harry Charles Underwood retired from the LAUSD. As befitting his long career, there were newspaper articles noting his retirement. In addition, his friends and colegues feted him at a dinner.  In his 20+ years of retirement he stayed busy with his church activities. He became President of the Kiwanis of Southeast Los Angeles and worked for Hudson Hardware in his spare time.
