Joseph Wheat & Mary "Polly" Searcy or Mary Harrison Clayton Family

Joseph was born in Prince Georges County, Maryland. He moved to Bedford County, Virgina with his family. After his father died the family moved to Mercer County, Kentucky. There is some dispute as to the ages and dates of death for the two wives. Assigning children of Joseph to one or the other is usually done using the 1819 marriage of Joseph and Polly.The census records show that Joseph did own slaves.

1841 Land Division -  After Joseph died his land was allocated to his heirs including his wife's dower
